My 193rd sneaker mask was created from a mix-matched pair of adidas Alphabounce. I bought a pair of the Easy Coral/Sun Glow color way for my wife Besty. She wore them immediately and frequently and every time she did I had sneaker envy. So I went hunting for a pair of Size 12 Women’s (10.5 Men’s), lucky me they were available AND ON SALE! So I bought a pair of the Coral joints and the Energy Blue for myself, and one more of each. I took 1 blue shoe and 1 coral shoe for the mask and kept their match on ice, just in case I needed more materials or a size 9.5 for whoever would model it (Lucky Betsy, I didn’t need them so she has a fresh pair of Alphabounce now).
I know most of the hype is still with Boost and the 4D technologies, but I finally wore my pair last weekend and they’re insanely comfortable. Dee-Nyce aka @FBCCBayArea blessed me with the perfect sweatsuit from Carpe Diem, it was such a match for this mix-matched sneaker mask that I used it in the photo shoot.
The Alphabounce mask was modeled by the incredible Gui DaSilva. You may recognize his acrobatics from our Zebra 350 mask shoot, or maybe you’ll recognize his movements because he’s the stunt double for Black Panther. I say that to tell you, dude can move! We only had about 45 minutes to shoot but Gui gave me magic for every frame. Maybe you can tell because I have dozens of photos to share with you.
Duality is always at play in my work. This mask exudes it. No one wears the same mask all the time, we’re complex creatures and often perspective and vantage point form our understanding of identity.
