A Mask for Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation

In the early years of my sneaker mask making I had strong support from sneaker blogs like Nice Kicks. That was thanks to true-to-the-culture bloggers, journalists, editors, and personalities like George Kiel. George was the Editor-In-Chief at Nice Kicks from 2008 – 2016, there he interacted and worked with legends of footwear like Kobe, KD, and Wade. In 2015, Kiel founded the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation and the Kick & Roll Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Event.

It was around then that George reached out to me to create a mask to help bring awareness to colon cancer. Admittedly I was swamped at the time, in over my head with orders and trying to survive as an artist – but I never forgot his request and this year I decided to make the time. Doing what’s right is rarely easy and convenient. Watching George grow KCCF has been inspirational, and I’m happy to present the foundation with my 186th sneaker mask. Made from a single pair of Deep Royal Jordan 12s, it will be a part of the silent auction at the Kick & Roll Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Event on November 10th in Houston, Texas. More info on the Blue Lite Festival.

“On behalf of the foundation, Kiel started the “Blue Knots” initiative, a campaign that encourages people to integrate blue shoelaces in their shoes – especially during the month of March, Colon Cancer Awareness Month – to honor those who have been afflicted by the disease and bring worldwide consciousness to colon cancer. The initiative is only two years old and has been supported by thousands through social media (#BlueKnots).” – from KIELCOLONCANCER.org
