It’s only right that the Hip-Hop inspired mask maker make masks inspired by Hip-Hop’s mysterious masked emcee. These 2 MF DOOM inspired sneaker masks are made from a single pair of 2007 Nike SB Dunks. This is a bit of a departure from my own creative “rules” – Rule #1: Only 1 mask will be made from each particular style of shoe. The point of that rule being that I’m not out here chopping down pair after pair of beloved sneakers.
Where as most masks are now commissioned by paying clients and collectors, these masks were a personal pick by Freehand Profit… which means these masks are available to purchase. To make it real easy, they’re up for sale on SHOPFREEHAND.com. If you’re not familiar with mask pricing you can find out more here.
If you’re eying that villianous green hoody, check out the folks at Arctic Premium. They got a good balance of modern style but keeping a classic look. The quality lives up to the ‘Premium’ in the name, strong soft fabric with gold zippers and accents to seal the deal. Hit up their online store or click here to jump right to that green cloak.
Most masks are made from 1 pair and never before have there been 2 masks made from the exact same style of shoe. Being that the MF DOOM masks are more of a ‘half-mask’ that left plenty of material. And if I only need 1 shoe to make a mask then the other shoe goes to waste without it’s match. Instead I chose this as example of how each mask is different, even with the same kind of mask and same kind of shoe I came up with 2 very different masks. And what better mask to explore that rule bend, after all the MAD VILLIAN himself was known to have stand ins perform for him.
I (Freehand Profit) shot this mask with good friend and Army of the Undeadstock co-author B(e) Selah in San Diego during ComicCon 2015. Timing our shoot to coincide with the mass arrival of costumed heroes allowed our villian to blend in amongst the crowd – embodying a sense of impending doom.
