Reebok Answer IV DMX Mask by Freehand Profit

The 4/20 release of the “Skunk” Dunk Mask kicked off the a series of new mask releases by Freehand Profit. New work will be released here on every 10 days leading up to the release of Freehand Profit‘s yet-to-be-titled 2nd art book. Free’s first book, “Army of the Undeadstock” hit shelves November 28, 2012 and is sold out in both the US & Canada. If you’re unfamiliar with the work you’ll want to check out his artist statement here.

This piece is unique in a lot of ways. These Reeboks were the very first pairs sacrificed to Freehand’s creative chopping block by a brand. They were also one of the first Live Chops (you can see the Live Chop thanks to Montreal based brand – Blunts and Kicks). These Answer IVs were dissected in front of a crowd in Montreal during 2013’s Sneaker Lifestyle event (Click to see photos from the event) thrown by Drunk Off Shoes. You can see more from the event here. The mask was raffled off to folks who bought a ticket to the sneaker event and the lucky winner was @freakyfirststep – who has patiently waited for the mask to be completed and for it to be displayed with Reebok.

“I’ve cut down a lot of shoes since I first started making sneaker masks in 2010. Iverson’s Answer IVstands out in my mind from a personal aspect because it reminds me so much of my good friend Jeremy who taught me a lot of what I know about kicks. Hard to believe it’s been 14 years since it dropped.” – Freehand Profit

Freehand Profit shot the Reebok Answer IV DMX mask on infamous Fairfax Ave with some help from Betsy VanDeusen. Good friend of Free and venomous LA emcee, Zodiak Killa, modeled this piece. If you’re not familiar with Zodiak Killa’s music yet you’ll want to get caught up, luckily he’ll be re-releasing 3 of his best albums this summer on iTunes. Keep an eye out for Machete, Window of Disbelief and Death of the Zodiak (The Final Numbers) – all featuring album art designed by Freehand Profit. Take a listen/watch to ‘Do The Math Remix’ by Zodiak Killa on YouTube – a personal favorite of mine.

Special thanks to, DGK and Miles aka @skatewonka. Find the illest DGK gear at your local skateshop and THEKAYOCORP.COM.
