After while crocodile…

September 4, 2010 – Crocodile Tears Mask

Where in the world did the term “crocodile tears” come from anyway?  I hear my parents say it as a kid and it was one of those things that always gave me a mental image to accompany it. Apparently it’s an old anecdote that crocs tear up in order to lure their pity prey into their lying jaws, the flip side said that the criminal crocs also cried for their crimes.  Even Shakespeare used it in Othello:

“O devil, devil!

If that the earth could teem with woman’s tears,

Each drop she falls would prove a crocodile.

Out of my sight!”
